Where it usually goes
In most BTO layouts the rack is installed in the service yard, directly below the ceiling and above where a manual rack or bamboo pole would normally sit. This keeps wet laundry out of your living space and takes advantage of natural airflow and light.

Plan it around your renovation
A few things make installation smoother if you sort them early:
- Light point position. The rack wires into your existing light point. If your electrician is already doing renovation wiring, it's worth noting where the service yard light point will sit. You can even ask your electrician to move the light point to the rack's mounting position — that way there's no exposed wiring and the finish is much neater.
- Timing. It's usually cleanest to install the rack after major renovation dust and painting are done, so the unit stays clean.
- Ceiling type. Standard concrete is simplest. If you're adding a false ceiling in that area, mention it — mounting may need adjusting.
Do you need HDB approval?
Installing a laundry rack in your service yard is a standard home fixture. For now, you generally do not need formal HDB approval to install an automated laundry rack in your HDB service yard.
